Hal Leonard 25 Great Guitar Solos Tab Songbook with CD Review

Hal Leonard 25 Great Guitar Solos Tab Songbook with CD
Average Reviews:

Being both a producer and an attorney, I have read most of what is currently on the market concerning music publishing.I've read all of the traditional music business books (This Business of Music, Everything You Need to Know About the Music Business, etc.), as well as books written by non-lawyers (Confessions of a Music Producer, The Craft and Business of Songwriting, etc.).I've even read Randy Poe's very informative _Music Publishing_.But this is the first book that I've read that seems to serve as a primer for walking a songwriter or producer through the motions of what is actually involved in executing as a music publisher.
While this book does not go into depth on copyright law, contracts, or basic business law, it doesn't pretend to be an all-in-one end-all-be-all on the subject of music publishing or entertainment law.In actuality, its true forte is in that it looks at music publishing from an entrepreneur's POV.It is a simple read that walks the reader through a number of things that should be considered by the entrepreneur who wants to run a successful music publishing company. And speaking as one who deals with songwriters and producers frequently, it is mandatory that music publishing be understood and even utilized to gain maximum compensation for your works.
The book assumes that you have a few songs under your belt in which to begin your catalog. If not, it discusses ways in which songs can be acquired.I commend Eric Beall for putting this book together. He has done much of the groundwork thinking so that you, future music publisher, can be further along in planning your business.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know the practical elements of the music publishing business and how they can be achieved by the novice attempting to create a career in songwriting and/or music publishing.

Kala KC02 Clip-on Tuner Review

Kala KC02 Clip-on Tuner

I bought this tuner when I purchased my Kala Pineapple.
I was surprised how small and easy to use it was.
I tried on line tuners, whistles, and a large guitar tuner, but this little guy takes the cake, simple, fast, effective and is small enough to fit anywhere (within reason),
the tuning part is a little smaller then a new VW key fob, with a clip attached.

Fretboard Logic SE - Special Edition The Reasoning Behind the Guitar's Unique Tuning + Chords Scales and Arpeggios Complete (Volumes I and II Combined) (Fretboard Logic Guitar Method Ser) Review

Fretboard Logic SE - Special Edition The Reasoning Behind the Guitar's Unique Tuning + Chords Scales and Arpeggios Complete
Average Reviews:

Learning guitar is an odd process. You're supposed to practice, practice, practice. You learn chord shapes. You have lessons. You dissect solos note by note. There appears to be no master plan. Somehow, through a variety ofmethods, you're supposed to learn. Eventually, you're assured, by somemeans you're not aware of yet (osmosis?), you'll "get it."
Thisbook is the "it" you're supposed to get.
Far too many booksassume that the common methods work. Many an aspiring student has put theguitar in the closet in frustration at something that doesn't address thebasic question - What note do I play next?
Bill Edwards has taken theidea of positional relationships to its highest point. If I play a C chordwith a barre at the eighth fret, where will I find a convenient F and Gposition? What shape will I need to play, and what fret should I startfrom?
This seems to me to be a basic question yet it hardly gets amention in most books. It seems that if you practice long enough and don'tget bored to death, you'll know this.
Bill Edwards shows that the fivemajor chord shapes (C, A, G, E, and D) follow as you move up the fretboard,so you quickly learn that if you're playing a certain shape at a certainfret, the chords you're going to need will be in a specific other shape aspecific number of frets away.
This is independent of what key you'replaying in, so if you start a 12-bar blues with a A-shape, you can dropdown a couple of frets and play an E-shape for the next chord.
I've madeit sound far more complex than it is. You'll need the book - make nomistake - and in just a few hours you'll have learned a huge amount ofuseful stuff.
But this is just the first seventeen of over a hundredpages. The idea of positional relationships is used to describe scales andthen the pentatonic blues scale, so you can build solos and knowimmediately where the next notes are.
Fretboard Logic pulls all theuseful stuff from other learning methods together. It shows you *why* youplay the notes you do.
I was suspicious of the other reviews here (mainlyreprinted from the book's cover), because they sounded so good theycouldn't be true. Then I saw the book recommended on the Fender Forum, so Idecided to take a chance.
Yeah, you still have to practice. Your fingerswon't get supple until you do. But imagine practicing where you'reconstantly trying something new, and where the musical inspiration flows. That's what you'll get if you study Fretboard Logic.

Product Description:
The Special Edition is the first two volumes of the Fretboard Logic guitar series combined, at a special discount. Part One deals with the pattern organization of the fretboard which results from the guitar's unique tuning system. Part Two teaches the tone groups of music - Chords, Scales and Arpeggios - by building them in the context of this pervasive pattern organization, and thereby eliminating the usual guesswork and rote memorization associated with these areas of a guitarist's education. This alone can take years off the learning curve. Combined, the two parts form a solid foundation by which a guitarist can intelligently pursue the music styles and technical approaches of their own choosing, and play them on the guitar types which they prefer.
